The Roger “CHINK” SARETTE
MEMORIAL GOLF CLASSIC

The fifth Roger “Chink” Sarette Memorial Golf Classic held on June 26th was, once again, a huge success. Each year, Eric Sarette and his family host this event in memory of his father. Things were a bit different this year. Friday evening was the “party”! Dinner, catered by Chef’s on Call (Sharon & Peter Cooper), consisted of several courses – each one sumptuous! Russ Caisse and his band started early and played on and on and on, to everyone’s enjoyment.

Eric presented a couple of awards, including the annual “Member of the Year” plaques, given each year to the members who have gone “over and above” with their help at the Valley. This year’s recipients were Art Barry, Rick Hayes and Jeff Clang. Thanks to each of you, for all you do and have already done.

Saturday was all about GOLF! Two sessions played. Morning session was a traditional four man Scramble. Afternoon session, was a two man- best ball competition, subdivided into three divisions- according to handicap. The players competed in the ESPN challenge and the chance to advance to the ESPN regionals, held at the Crumpin Fox Golf Club on August 23rd.

In addition to the fabulous golf; food and drink were abundant!! At the barbeque pit, Garry Nakamura (one of our many member volunteers) grilled hamburgers to keep “Amy’s Burger Bar” supplied all day long! The Sarette sisters “manned” the burger station, where the margaritas flowed non stop. At the top of the hill on Hole # 7, also “manned” by Sarette family members, sat another food and beverage station! BBQ pulled pork sliders accompanied by more margaritas and draft beer, kept the golfers full and happy. Cold water, donated by Russ Avery of Country Springs, was available for those golfers who wanted to keep their heads in the game.

The golfers, most sporting the “Chink” hat, (one of the fabulous tee prizes) had team pictures taken by Art Barry on the 9th green with our new pet alligator (donated by Bill Loos). All in all, it was a great couple of days!
